You've probably heard of the book or column called Letters to My Younger Self and this is what I'd write to myself at the age of 11.
Dear Sarah,
Go easy on the ice cream and potato chips because you'll get fat and will have to count calories when you're in your late 20's and you won't be able to run a mile without feeling like you would rather slit your wrists than keep running.
Also, when you reach high school don't tell that 10th grader you have a crush on him because he didn't know you existed until you told him how you felt and he's not into you. For the rest of the year things will be very awkward between the two of you. It's better to be left wondering because then you will spend three years trying to avoid him in the hallways and even now avoiding him on Facebook.
One more thing. Make sure your first concert experience is one you can be proud of. You don't want to have to tell the story that the first concert you attended was that of the short-lived boy band called 3T that was made up of Michael Jacksons' nephews (Tito's kids).
Much love,
Sarah
I think those are the only things I would tell my younger self because I don't really like to live in regret, not even the heavy lipliner with no lipstick phase I went through in junior high.
Dear Sarah D (Age 14),
ReplyDeleteTake up jogging. It will encourage a life of healthiness and hopefully help you stay thinner. Plus the boys will like seeing your big boobs bounce. Yes it will be boring, but use your disc man.
Much love,
Sarah
ha ha ha .. awesome. disc man.. you mean walk man? ha!
ReplyDeleteYou must post a photo of the lipliner w/ no lipstick.
