mad men and my shout out to faye miller

Mad Men is back and my life now has a little more purpose. To quickly recap, in Season 4, Don drank a lot and blacked out a couple of times (maybe almost even every night). Don was hooking up with a prostitute, got into a semi-relationship with Dr. Faye Miller (by "dr." I mean consumer researcher), then suddenly proposed to his secretary. Also in Season 4 just when you think you can't hate Betty anymore, she proves us wrong. Joan got knocked up by Roger and Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce lost their biggest account Lucky Strike putting them on the verge of closure. In a stroke of genius (or stupidity), Don took out a full page ad in the NYTimes stating why he “quit tobacco.”

In preparation for Season 5, I recently watched a couple of episodes from Season 4 and I’d like to dedicate this blog post to who I think is the most unfortunate of Don Draper’s women, Faye Miller. Faye Miller seemed to have done everything right but Don took her for granted. She is intelligent, beautiful, successful and great in bed. Faye is not very good with children but she genuinely tried to be and she took care of Don when he was at his worst. Faye’s biggest flaw was that she really liked Don. Faye seemed perfect for Don. She is his equal in the professional world and she is one of few people who truly knew his real identity and accepted him despite the lie. Faye even jeopardized her job for Don by crossing ethical bounds to help his career. In the end, Don dumped Faye for his younger secretary who he slept with once and babysat for him in California for a weekend. Perhaps I am more sympathetic to Faye out of all of Don’s women because I hate to see the Faye's in the world getting taken for granted. Faye is probably the type of woman who end up staying single because all of the men at her level will leave her for a HYPOA (hot young piece of ass). Megan is a nice girl, but once upon a time so was the young Betty.

In this new season, here’s what I’m hoping for and predicting:

1.) I hope we see more of creepy Glen and I’m predicting he’ll be a teenager with a driver’s license sneaking around with Sally.
2.) I hope we see Sal.
3.) I think Midge (Don’s former mistress, artist from the village) overdoses on smack.
4.) I think Peggy becomes a lesbian… wait did she already do that?
5.) I hope Carla gets her revenge on that bitch Betty for firing her.

"i love the smell of commerce in the morning" -brodie

Check out this girly time-waster called Polyvore. This site is like having a virtual closet where you can put together outfits and then be sad about how you don't have any of these items in your real life closet. This is the site for you if you've had your coffee today after 6:00 p.m. therefore are wide awake at 1:30 a.m.

This is my Mallrats-Shannen Doherty inspired outfit.
Mallrats inspired
Flannel by Isabel Marant (so it's probably really expensive), Floral Dr. Martens, Boyfriend cut jeans, Pink Crop Top and Top Shop backpack.

This outfit is sort of similar to something I wore over the weekend except with what I wore, a friend said I looked "lumber jack chic" then a few drinks later he said my outfit looked "really lesbian." I'm not sure what "really lesbian" means coming from a gay guy.

a blog post about other people's blogs

I read blogs every day. That is my sad life now. I read certain blogs everyday to the point where I start to think these people are actually my friends. I used to read about important things (or at least tried to make an effort to) like politics, world news, environment, etc. Now, my free (and work) time is spent looking at google shares on the latest celeb disasters and the following blogs. I kinda wish I had their lives (or at least be invited out to dinner by them).

1.) From Me To You
This is a photography and fashion blog. The woman who runs this blog is an incredible photographer who invented animated photographs called cinemagraphs. She travels all over the world shooting fashion shows and boat races in Dubai, among other things and she does it all looking like she had just stepped off a set of Mad Men.

I also love that she has great taste in beer. This is her in Malibu during a shoot drinking Pliny the Elder. She is also a big fan of Dogfish Head. Yep. I am a stalker.

I think I stumbled upon this blog when I read about Zooey Deschanel's new internet venture called Hello Giggles. The owner of Molls She Wrote is co-creator of Hello Giggles. I'm so glad I found Molls She Wrote because she is hilarious. Her personal blog is very random (much like this one) but yet I look forward to reading it every day.

She is one of those "internet sensations" who got semi-famous for her blog. She is currently a writer for Two Broke Girls.

I found this blog reading Molls She Wrote. They are apparently BFFs and he is also pretty hilarious. His blog topics include Housewives of (any city), public schools, politics, working out, you name it.

This is one of my favorite personal style blogs. The Man Repeller exhibits the perfect amount of sarcasm and wit. She is extremely like-able unlike a lot of fashion insiders. She is the embodiment of the saying that women dress for other women. Her style can be a bit outrageous for me but I enjoy reading her take on the latest trends.

"If it looks like a vagina it must be couture." -The Man Repeller

These are completely opposite blogs. I love The Pioneer Woman because her food and her family makes me wish I would be invited to stay on her ranch for the weekend. I would even get up early to feed the cows or whatever it is ranch people do in the mornings.

I like Fat Free Vegan Kitchen because the food always looks good and it's guilt-free (unlike The Pioneer Woman). I come to Fat Free Vegan Kitchen when I am on a health kick.

What blogs do you waste your time on?

"beautiful on the inside" (i'm sure that is a line in some annoying christina aguilera song)

In every ugly person lies someone beautiful inside. Is that how the saying goes? Anyway, I discovered this website/blog that I feel like my blog is on the inside.

This website is run by Pippa Lord who is the Photo Director for Elle magazine. The website is dedicated to food, cooking and of course the photographs are gorgeous as well as the subjects of the photos.

Good looking, chic and stylish people cooking food. In my mind, this is how my blog looks.

On this website, you'll find recipes, restaurant reviews, household tips and other home-related topics.

This brown rice stuffed bell pepper I had for dinner is beautiful on the inside.

I sauteed (using no oil) chopped bell pepper (I used the caps), onions, garlic, chopped tomatoes and mushrooms seasoned with a little bit of herbs. I then added cooked brown rice and Mary's Gone crackers crumbs to soak up any of the juices. I spooned them into the hollowed out bell peppers (cut the top off, spoon out the seeds and save the caps to chop up and put in the filling). I also made a sweet tomato sauce (similar to my filipino spaghetti sauce, minus the hot dogs) to go with the bell peppers. Put the bell peppers into a casserole dish with the tomato sauce at the bottom, cover with foil and bake at 375 for 40 minutes. Uncover for the last 10 min.

This dish is good for people who are beautiful on the inside and outside.

The (Impossible) Christmas Wish List

I called this wish list impossible not because I picked out items from the 2011 Neiman Marcus Christmas Catalog where the items range from a $25 paper weight to a $1 million dancing fountain that can be installed in your home. Rich people are silly. This is a wish list of “things” I want that can’t actually be bought or given to you. Have you ever tried to come up with a list of jobs you wish you had that weren’t actually jobs but would be awesome if you got paid for it? This is kind of like that.

1.) Never get a traffic violation or a ticket.

2.) Have all my meals prepared for me.

3.) To never be too cold or too hot.

4.) To sleep in every morning.

5.) To be able to jog in stilettos.

6.) To eat or drink whatever I want without gaining a pound or degrading my health.

7.) To punch someone in the face (this will always be on my list of any sort).

8.) To never run out of things to watch.

9.) To never run out of things to wear.

10.) Have all of my debt erased (credit cards, car, student loans).

I guess this list isn’t impossible after all… I just need to be filthy rich or be a drag queen.

What's on your (impossible) Christmas wish list?

hippie gingerbread cookies
Photo is for added Christmas-spirit effect. They are ginger bread people I decorated as Occupy protestors.

Siri (not to be confused with Suri, the child of Tom and Katie Cruise, although Suri might be able to do some of the things Siri can do)

I recently upgraded to an iPhone 4S. Initially, I questioned my decision to get the more expensive 4S rather than the cheaper iPhone 4 because the only big difference to me was Siri, the personal assistant robot built into the 4S. I didn't think I'd ever use Siri, but I tested her* out this weekend.

Here's some of what I asked Siri.

Siri will be your designated driver...

Siri will be your Charlie Sheen and help you have a good time...

Siri will even be your accomplice...

But Siri will not be your friend. Ouch.

Siri is cold.

*I am going to refer to Siri as a she even she has told me she has no gender, although she has female voice.

I need to take some days off.

And this list is only the half of it because it doesn't include any of the shows that are currently on now that I DVR.

The one with the asterisk (Weeds, maybe even Mildred Pierce) is something I may or may not watch. I started to hate Weeds after Season 2 (maybe 3) yet I continued to watch. I can't believe this show got picked up for another season.

If you spoil any of these shows for me I. WILL. CUT. YOU.

Just for fun...

Shows I am currently watching (organized by network). These are shows I either DVR or watch online.

FX:
Sons of Anarchy
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

HBO:
Boardwalk Empire

CBS:
The Good Wife
2 Broke Girls

ABC:

I want to introduce you to Dating On Demand

I complain about Comcast a lot but I have to admit I really like the On Demand feature. You can watch past t.v. shows and movies. You can even shop for cars, look at real estate and find yourself a date." That's right. Dating on Demand (it's under the local section, so they're all people from the city you live in). Every now and then I will check out the ads so I can have something to laugh at.

The ads are short (about 1-2 minutes) and the people give a quick bio about themselves (their dream girl/guy, favorite thing about themselves, craziest place they've fooled around, hobbies, etc.). The ad also lists their name, age and occupation. I noticed that under occupation, a lot of them says, student, artist or (my favorite) N/A.

My favorite of the night is Maurice.
Age: 29
Username: CowboyReece
Occupation: N/A

He ends his ad with these words:
"You should date me because I am the best man you don't know about. I could show all that and uh.. I wanna say a whole lot more but my mother is sitting right here so once again I'ma keep it PG for TV. But if this was HBO, I'd be on Cat House and ya'll know what that is."
